Without wishing to descend into hyperbole, if you’re looking for the next big thing in graphic novels, it might be worth taking a look at Cecil and Jordan – it’s only been out a few days and its publisher is already claiming to have sold out of copies. OK, maybe they didn’t print that many, but if so, it’s a bizarre kind of PR gimmick.
So what’s all the fuss about? Well, Gabrielle Bell has been submitting short, surreal stories to anthologies for a while. This book collects a handful of those, including a story that is being adapted by Michel Gondry (director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep), about a woman who decides she’ll be a lot more useful to those around her if she turns herself into a chair.
