Wing Shing Ma’s story of martial arts, revenge and family family treasure commences with volume one of Chinese Hero: Tales of the Blood Sword. The hero of the tale, conveniently called Hero, narrowly escapes the slaughter of the rest of his family when a local triad leader orders their assassination in an attempt to claim the Blood Sword – a family heirloom of legendary value. But as Hero grows up and continues the task of looking after the sword, his enemies decide to turn on his own son in an effort to wrestle control of the blade.
The PR blurb promises “one of the most intricately woven action adventure stories ever told… with mind-bending kung fu action, nearly identical to the best Hong Kong action sequences.” Ought to be good then. Watch out for a full review coming to these pages soon.
