UPDATE: Now available in paperback
Fables is Bill Willingham’s updating of fairy tales, which brings the stories out of myth and into an alternate universe where all the classic characters live amongst the rest of us. The main series is an ongoing piece of work that might prove daunting to those wishing to sample it without having to invest in lots of books. If you fall into this camp, 1001 Nights of Snowfall should appeal.
Throwing the character of Snow White into the Arabian Nights, this is a collection of short stories bound together by a greater whole. In it, it is Snow White who is kidnapped by an Arabian sultan, who wishes to marry then kill the pale European beauty. But by telling him 1001 tales, all secret stories about her fellow fairytale characters, she wins a stay of execution.
With art by an illustrious collection of artists including Brian Bolland, John Bolton, Mark Buckingham, Jill Thompson and Charles Vess, this unique collection makes an interesting entry point for new readers, while established fans will surely not want to miss it either.
