Silent comics, which forgo the use of words and dialogue, can make for a very different type of read. Metronome, although lacking in words, is far from silent however. The metronome of the title ticks away throughout the book, marking the passage of time and working with the regimented panel layout to create a visual rhythm.
A fascinating, highly-stylistic book, it follows a relationship from the first heady days of sexual desire, through to the humdrum micro-disappointments and personality conflicts that can eventually break a couple up.
