It’s been a while since I read anything by the Italian graphic novelist Gipi, but if One Story is at least as good as Notes for a War Story or Garage Band, then we’re in for a treat.
Deliberately ironically, One Story is actually two stories. which have been intricately intertwined. In one, writer Silvano Landi is having a breakdown, watching his world fall apart as his family life disintegrates. In the other story, Landi’s great-grandfather, Mauro, is a soldier, involuntarily sacrificing everything for his country during World War I. Gipi connects and combines the two stories, telling both simultaneously, in an ambitious-sounding book.
One Story will be available from 28 July 2020 and is published by Fantagraphics.
