I have to admit that I didn’t watch the BBC’s reworking of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson. Am I missing out? Is it worth catching up with on the iPlayer?
As a result, I’m not completely sure whether this manga recreation is worth investigating. It looks like it’s been nicely illustrated in a traditional manga style by artist Jay, created for the Japanese market and presented here in the same left-to-right, monochrome format as the Japanese original. This book covers the first episode of the second series (or season, if you’re American), entitled A Scandal in Belgravia and based on Conan Doyle’s short story A Scandal in Bohemia.
My guess is that you’d have to be an extremely enthusiastic Sherlock fan to purchase an adaptation of a TV series, even if it has been created by British TV-writing legends Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.
