Writer David Lapham takes on The Spectre in this supernatural superhero tale, and makes a little bit more of the fact that The Spectre used to be Gotham Central detective Crispus Allen. When a particularly gruesome murder is committed in a Gotham tenement, all its inhabitants are suspects and The Spectre deems it worthy of his investigation. The trouble is, as Allen gets deeper into the mystery he finds that all of the residents have dark and guilty secrets they’re trying to conceal, which look likely to turn The Spectre spiralling into his dangerous angel of vengeance mode. As if that weren’t bad enough Allen has Batman’s own investigation into the murder, and that of his ex-colleagues at Gotham Central, to contend with.
