Having won a British graphic short story prize in 2008, it’s little surprise to see Julian Hanshaw progress to graphic novels. This is the story of a young Vietnamese boy, who is stranded alone in the capital of Vietnam, but who sets up a mobile Pho stall (Pho is the Vietnamese national dish, usually based on a beef and noodle soup though there are numerous permutations) to try and earn a living. If it shows any of the promise that Hanshaw has already shown in his short career, it should make for a great read. Definitely one to watch when it’s released in May 2010.
