Winsor McCay may be best known for Little Nemo in Slumberland but he was a prolific artist throughout his life, creating single panel editorial cartoons for newspapers as well as comics and animation. This is a collection of his newspaper work, from the New York American, ranging from 1913 to 1917. The cartoons need basing in a historical context – World War I was kicking off and America was a very different place with some different issues and news agendas – but it’s a handy tome for McCay fans looking to bolster their collections of his work.
