Some of comics’ finest moments have come from finite series – epic dramas that unfold over hundreds if not thousands of pages. Classics like The Sandman and Preacher spring immediately to mind, though Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s Y: The Last Man seems destined to follow in their footsteps.
Based around the premise that the planet lost its entire male population (except for a man called Yorick and his pet monkey Ampersand) on a single day, the survivors travel the world looking for the reason why, and, on the way, try and track down Yorick’s girlfriend. The final showdown is set to occur in Paris, where she finally appears to be waiting, but so are a small army of women looking to get a piece of the world’s last surviving male chromosomes.
