If you haven’t already sampled Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s incredible Y: The Last Man in monthly or trade paperback form, then perhaps this hardback will tickle your fancy. Collecting issues 1-10 of the series (the equivalent of the first two trades), the five pages of sketches in the back doesn’t add a great deal to the package, but the serious hardcover packaging should appeal to those who want a copy of Y for life and beyond.
Just in case you don’t already know, Y: The Last Man is the story of Yorick and his pet monkey Ampersand, who find themselves in the uniquely odd and distinctly dangerous position of being the last males of any species left on Earth. There are women aplenty though and, if they knew he existed, they’d all want a piece of Yorick to help continue their particular branches of the human race. So it’s up to Yorick and a secret service guardian he picks up to see if they can find out what’s gone wrong, and work out how to stop the human race from dying out completely.
